Just a quick view into my life. Feel free to comment on any of the posts listed here. Hopefully I can come up with some profound thoughts or something (but I doubt it--lol). Yeah, and I'll also try not to be too controversial. Haha. Word.

A Short Entry for the Die-Hards...

One thing I did appreciate about college was that you could set your own schedule (and you actually had time to do something like create Xanga entries). When you “grow up” and get a job, you lose that freedom. Imagine what it will be like when you get married and have kids. Whew! I guess that explains why people who have families don’t have time to keep an online journal like this. LOL.
Hey, did anyone see those Panthers this weekend? They’ve got game. I am curious to see how deep in the NCAA tournament we get this year. Joe Lunardi better give them some props in his latest edition of Bracketology. He had them as an #8 seed before the win over Syracuse. Ludicrous. I think they are deserving of about a #4 seed after beating the Orange. I guess it doesn’t matter what seed we get, though, since we are winning the whole thing anyway.
Looking for some cool tunes to play throughout the day? I would hit up www.passionradio.net. It randomly chooses from a list of modern worship songs by the Passion Worship Band. That’s what I spin at work (along with Spirit 105.3 out of Seattle—www.spirit1053.com).
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. Guys: Remember to do something nice for your sweetheart or that “special someone” on February 14th. And ladies likewise! I guess I am just curious now. Are guys supposed to get something for Valentine’s Day? I think they should (and not just because I am a guy either—lol). Maybe Valentine’s Day is becoming/has become a female holiday. I think getting a guy something for Valentine’s Day is a nice way of letting him know that she appreciates him. Lastly, fellas, if you’re going to get her flowers, make sure you put the order in this week (let’s just say they tend to be very busy two or three days before Valentine’s Day).
Keep it real.

Can I Get a Snow Day?

Yo.
The snow here has been insane. I am not a fan of driving in this stuff. Earlier this week I experienced some of the worst driving conditions ever. There were four separate accidents on a 25 mile strip of 80 West alone. I was in Sewickley for most of the week on an audit. We couldn’t even go down on Wednesday because of the weather. I’ve got one more Saturday of freedom left until the middle of April. I’m already looking forward to April 15th. I need to get out running again or something.
I found out that the DJ for the wedding is going to be Matt Rhodes. The dude is straight up hilarious. He was the radio show host that had Shawn, my cousin Gary, and I on his broadcast a couple times. How was my Christian radio debut? Let’s just say live radio is so harsh, especially when your voice cracks. Haha. You’ll have to ask me sometime to share a few stories of times when my voice has cracked. I’ve got some good ones.
I’ve wondered off and on whether I should pursue other titles (like a CFM, Certified Financial Manager) or degrees (an MBA). I guess I don’t really know what the benefit would be of doing something like that. Just seems kind of silly to pay the cost to get something like that if it isn’t all that important. Doing it just to get the title isn’t a big deal to me. For now I am content just working with what I have. Public accounting serves as a springboard for a lot of other positions later on too. I’m just looking at it as a matter of putting my time in now and learning all that I can. All I remember about college was that I wanted to get out as quickly as possible. Grove City College was cool. I enjoyed making some close friends there. My opinion of college, though, is that it would be great if you didn’t have to do any work (if you could just live in a dorm forever with your friends...). Too bad that isn’t reality. OK, I could put up with learning a few things if you didn’t have to worry about grades. LOL. I did some heavy thinking the first semester of my freshman year and quickly came to the realization that a lot of the work was just like high school (with a greater emphasis in college on teaching yourself and honing your time management skills). I didn’t even consider the material to be that much more difficult in college. Calculus in high school was more difficult than anything I studied in college. Talk about hitting a brick wall your freshman year. All I knew was that I wasn’t going to sit around in the books when I could be out experiencing life in the real working world.
I made some brownies tonight. It doesn’t make me all grown up or anything because I still lick the spoon just like when I was a little kid. LOL.
In the words of Deezer D: It’s all about “Livin’ Up In a Down World”. Catch you later. Peace.

Congratulations!!!

Hey Bloggers,
First things first. Congratulations go out to my brother Shawn. He got engaged this past Thursday to Kristin Graham. The couple plans on tying the knot on June 24th of this year. Best wishes to both of them as they plan on spending the rest of their lives together.
What else has been going on with me? I got a raise this year at work. Along with the wage increase, though, comes greater responsibility. The firm wants to start using me in a supervisory role. Word on my CPA license should be coming any time now.
Had quite the experience at last week’s quiz meet: One of our quizzer’s cars went sliding off the road behind us on the way to Meadville. Glad there was a guard rail and friendly people in the house nearby with four wheel drive to help pull it out. The other five of us tried moving the car, but to no avail. I got lit up with mud when we tried to push the car out. We gave it some gas but the tires just spun. It looked like I was the one who was in an accident when we finally arrived at the church. The jacket and clothes can get washed. I’m just thankful no one was injured.
Well, this one wasn’t too long. I’ll get pictures of the happy couple up shortly. My website will probably get a fresh update too. Catch you later. Peace.

Another Year, Another Tax Season...

Yeah, it's that time of year again. Tax season is practically upon us and with that comes a jump in the number of hours I have to work. January requires 46 hours/week. February hits 50 hours/week and from March on (until April 15th) its 52 hours/week. I'm already looking forward to April 16th because that means later nights here at the office (and Saturdays too).
January has kept me busy at the church. We have a new contribution system in place for tithes and offerings and I have to teach the secretary how to use it (after teaching myself). There are W-2s and 1099s to be completed, 2004 giving statements to sign and pass out, quarterly filings with the IRS, principal-only payments to be made on the mortgage, etc. It's crazy, but I kind of enjoy doing it. Hey, I guess somebody has to! Anyways, I have the day off this Friday (in replace of Monday for New Years, a day I had to work because the company needed me to take inventory at a clients in New Castle) and I am going to head on over to the church to get all of the "financial stuff" squared away. I love hanging out at the church (any church for that matter). I guess you can call me a "Church Rat". When I really sit down and think about it: What better place could there be to work at than in a church? I would definitely love a job like that.
Should I try to throw some accountant humor in here? Eh, maybe not. Am I really your typical accountant? One thing I know to be true: Unsweetened iced tea is the official drink of accountants everywhere! Word.
